Subsidy check: Which heat pump public subsidy will I get?
Public subsidies in Austria come from two pots: federal and state. The federal pot is currently empty — the states continue to provide grants, but with very different conditions. Select your federal state.
Everything at once? The heat pump calculator shows suitability, size, heating costs and federal state public subsidy in three steps.
In which federal state is your house located?
Tap on your federal state — then you will see which programmes are open, how much you can get and when to submit the application.
FederalFederal budget 2026 exhausted — currently no new applications
The federal funds of the Sanierungsoffensive 2026 (renovation offensive: Kesseltausch and "Sauber Heizen für Alle") are exhausted. Since 10.07.2026, no new registrations or applications are possible; already submitted applications will continue to be processed.
Outlook: For 2027, the funding framework is secured again with 360 million € — for the first time separated into 181 million € for thermal renovation and 179 million € for Kesseltausch (boiler replacement). An exact start date for new registrations has not yet been published; according to the ministry, the conditions are to be presented in autumn (as of 27.09.2026: not yet published).
Conditions of the "Kesseltausch 2026" programme (relevant for ongoing applications and the next tranche): 30 % of the eligible investment costs, maximum 7 500 €. Processing via Kommunalkredit Public Consulting (KPC). Source
Burgenland
Burgenland subsidises the heating replacement with 30 % of the eligible costs: 2.000 € base amount, plus a 500 € social bonus for a net annual household income of up to 43.000 €. Those who meet the income limits of „Sauber Heizen für Alle" (Clean Heating for Everyone) receive a flat rate of 3.500 € instead — but then without any further bonuses.
No quote, no subsidy application. Maximum of three checked installers, free of charge and without obligation.
Replacement of a fossil heating system (oil, gas, coal/coke, night storage/direct storage heaters)
EHPA quality label for the heat pump, refrigerant GWP ≤ 2.000
Design flow temperature max. 55 °C
Heat pump under 100 kW; no possibility to connect to highly efficient local/district heating
Measure completed by 31.12.2026
Applications are submitted after implementation, at the latest 12 months after the invoice date and by 31.01.2027 at the latest. According to the guidelines, the hot water heat pump bonus of 300 € only applies in combination with a biomass central heating system and therefore does not apply to a heat pump heating system. State budget 2026: 9 million €, no legal entitlement — this also covers pending cases from 2025.
Carinthia subsidises the heating replacement with 3.000 €, plus 1.500 € for a simultaneous solar system and 200 € for hydraulic balancing — up to 4.700 € from the federal state. Since the federal stop, the federal state public grant has continued independently (Richtlinie 6, Abschnitt B); applications are made after implementation.

Flow temperature hurdle: This programme sets requirements for the design flow temperature. Check this early — it determines eligibility for the public subsidy and influences the choice of radiators.
Application possible up to 18 months after invoicing. Ground/groundwater heat pumps have a higher cost limit — up to 9.325 € basic public subsidy there. For new builds, the Wohnbauförderungsrichtlinie (housing subsidy guidelines) with a max. 40 °C design flow temperature applies instead of the renovation guidelines. The additional TIWAG premium requires membership in the "Netzwerk Wärmepumpe Tirol" and is therefore not available for every device. As an alternative to the one-off grant, there is an Annuitätenzuschuss (annuity grant) (35 % of the initial burden).
Vorarlberg provides a grant under the Richtlinie Heizungstausch 2026 (Heating Replacement Directive 2026) with a 2.000 € base plus a 1.000 € bonus for replacing a fossil fuel heating system. For air-to-water heat pumps — these rates are halved according to § 9 Para. 1 lit. c: up to 1.500 €.

No flow temperature requirement from the federal state — the 55 °C is a condition of the federal public subsidy
Noise hurdle: A sound power level of at most 55 dB is required (up to 60 dB only with conditions). The decisive factor is the data sheet value of the device, not the marketing sound pressure. To the noise calculator
Application up to 6 months after commissioning, latest possible on 31.12.2026 — the 6-month deadline is cut off by this end date. There is no advance reservation and no legal entitlement: if the state fund is empty at the time of application, the public subsidy is cancelled. State budget 2026 approx. 3,6 Mio €, of which, according to the federal state in April 2026, around 2 Mio € is still available.
Vienna provides a grant for heating replacement with 35 % of the recognised costs, max. 8.000 € (detached house) or 5.250 € (apartment) — from its own budget, independent of the federal stop. This currently makes Vienna one of the strongest grant-providing federal states. However, Vienna sets its own technical conditions for this: The heat pump must be listed in the GET product database and the design flow temperature must not exceed 40 °C — above that only with proof of efficiency. In addition, there are income limits.
No quote, no subsidy application. Maximum of three checked installers, free of charge and without obligation.

Income limits according to § 11 WWFSG 1989 (see below)
No own labour, lump sums or pure material costs
Flow temperature hurdle: This programme sets requirements for the design flow temperature. Check this early — it determines eligibility for the public subsidy and influences the choice of radiators.
Invoices must be no more than 6 months old when the application is submitted — the public grant can therefore also be applied for after implementation. There is no legal entitlement; payment is made subject to available budget funds.

With the federal public subsidy it would be 15 500 € — this portion will only be possible again once new federal funds are released (budgeted for 2027).
The order decides your money: Get a quote → submit the public subsidy application → wait for approval → only then place the order. If you have it installed first and apply afterwards, you will miss out on most programmes. This is the most expensive avoidable mistake when replacing a heating system.
