Tyrol: Sanierungsförderung (refurbishment grant) continues, reform by 2027
Between July and September 2026, the state of Tyrol pledged Wohnbauförderung (housing subsidies) of over 84 million euros, 20 million of which for renovations. For you, this means: if you want to replace an old heating system with a heat pump in Tyrol, the federal state public grant is still open to you. It is different at the federal level, where the Sanierungsoffensive (renovation offensive) has not accepted any new registrations since July.
What Tyrol has reported
The figures come from the quarterly balance of the Kuratorium für Wohnbauförderung (Board for Housing Subsidies) from 24 September. Of the 84 million euros, 64 million go into new construction and 20 million into the renovation of existing buildings. The largest amounts go to the districts of Innsbruck-Land with 15,7 and Kufstein with 15,5 million euros. The federal state does not break down how much of this is allocated to heating replacement and heat pumps.
There is also an outlook: Tyrol wants to further develop the Wohnbauförderung (housing subsidy) by 2027. Simpler subsidy regulations and a stronger focus on energy and resource efficiency have been announced. The federal state has not yet published new rules or a deadline.
Context: The federal state supports, the federal government pauses
At the federal level, the Sanierungsoffensive 2026 (renovation offensive 2026) has ended. The ministry already stopped the Sanierungsbonus (renovation bonus) for thermal renovation on 2 February to reserve the money for the Kesseltausch (boiler replacement). Since 10 July, no new registration and no new application is possible for the Kesseltausch either. Anyone who registered beforehand is not affected by this.
For Tyrolean households, the Landesförderung (federal state subsidy) is currently the decisive support for the switch. For a heat pump heating system, the federal state offers two options: a one-off grant of 25 Prozent of the eligible costs or an annuity grant of 35 Prozent of the initial burden of a bank loan. The eligible costs have an upper limit, which lies between 21.300 and 73.300 Euro depending on the heating output and heat source.
What you should check before applying
The Tyrolean public subsidy depends on a few conditions that you should clarify during the planning stage:
- Age of the building: The building permit must have been issued more than ten years before submitting the application.
- Flow temperature: A limit of 50 °C applies to air-to-water heat pumps, and 55 °C for brine-to-water and water-to-water heat pumps. In older buildings, radiators and insulation often play a role here, which is why the heating load needs to be discussed early on.
- Quality seal: The device needs an EHPA quality seal.
- No hybrid solution: The federal state does not subsidise a heat pump that is combined with a fossil fuel boiler.
Because Tyrol has announced a revision, you should take a look at the current subsidy page of the federal state before submitting. The conditions mentioned above reflect the current status; the page lists 1 January 2026 as the last update. You can find information and the online application at the federal state of Tyrol in the Wohnbauförderung (housing subsidy) section.
